Diary of a 60 Year Old Food Addict
So it's been awhile since I wrote anything on this blog. I never wanted to be a big blogger. I just wanted a place to vent and share some of my thoughts and to share makeup. Today the blog will be taking on a new direction of being my weight loss journey.
So in my life I've probably gained a total of 200 lbs since Age 21 and lost that amount. For this journey, I'm going to start back at 4 years ago when I reached 230 lbs for a day. Then I dropped 3 lbs in a week and stayed at 227 for a few months.
One day I woke with a rapid heartbeat and I could feel my blood pressure pumping. You know when you feel and actually hear your blood pumping, your blood pressure is way too high. At that time I had no primary care physician because I had convinced myself I didn't need any more bp medicine. Boy was I wrong. So on a Thursday morning at 3:00 am, I took off to the ER to make sure I wasn't having a stroke. That was my scariest moment. Once I got my bp regulated, I knew I had to get off the pounds. My first start was to do low carb because I know cutting out grains, simple carbs and sugar is the only way for me. I would walk 2 -3 miles each day on the treadmill or do a workout DVD. My favorite has always been the Original Firm workouts from the 1980s. I convinced myself I wasn't in good enough shape to do those any more so I only did Jillian Michaels' Last Chance Workout and Leslie Sansone walking dvds. I would do light weights 2 or 3 days a week and yoga several days a week. Eventually I worked my way down to 182. Then one day I started eating because something stressed me out and didn't stop. So the yo yo was back on. I gained back to 198 and then lost back down to 188 and then back again to 202 and then back down to 190 and that yo yo was years.
Then the pandemic hits. We were cooking every day at work and I guess I had it in my mind, this virus is going to eventually kill me so why not eat. I gained back to 215 and then knew I had to get it under control or this time I would most likely get to 250 in only a short time. You see the way my body works I gain 20, lose 10 and then the cycle goes back and forth. I gained the Covid 15 or 19, whatever you want to call it. As time has gone on, I've realized that I can beat this thing with good health and not listening to MSM. I don't need a vaccine to beat this virus.
My plan is different now. I've learned so much about Intermittent Fasting, Carnivore, Keto, Low Carb and yes calorie counting. No diet can be successful without calorie counting. I don't care what any expert says out there. You can't keep consuming too many calories in a 24 hour period if you're not burning more than you're putting in if you want to lose weight. Now when you're under 40, I believe it doesn't matter so much what you eat as long as you're not consuming too many calories. As we age, that changes. TO Be Continued.
